Research Committee of the Ionian University

The grant supported the research study of the Hellenic Navy and the merchant navy throughout the years of the Greek war of independence (1821-1831). It was the first time that the role of the two navies was studied concurrently with the objective to enrich scientific knowledge vis-à-vis this decisive aspect of the war of liberation. The Ionian University is located at the island of Corfu. It consists of the following six Departments: History, Foreign Languages, Translation & Interpreting, Music Studies, Archives, Library Science & Museum Studies, Informatics, and Audio & Visual Arts.
