Part of the Children’s Intensive Care Units’ Renovation Program.The grant supports renovation and reconstruction works as well as the installment of network interface software that will connect all participating ICUs, allowing them to communicate and share information. The “Aghia Sophia” Children’s Hospital was founded in 1896, and began operating in 1901. It is the largest children’s hospital in Greece, and one of the largest in Europe, with a capacity of 750 beds. The hospital treats an average of 235,000 children every year, 53,000 of which are admitted as in-patients. The Children’s Intensive Care Unit was inaugurated in 1993, and contains 10 beds that are continually occupied. The unit employs 12 doctors and 25 nurses.
