The Greek Prime Minister and the European leaders were welcomed by Ambassador Vassilis Kaskarelis on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), and by SNFCC Managing Director Elly Andriopoulou.
From its first day, the SNFCC has been a cultural touchstone in Greece, welcoming important figures from around the world. The SNFCC is hosting this year’s Summit, which focuses on pressing issues including climate change, not only as an Athenian landmark, but also as an international example of environmental sustainability. Sustainability has been an integral component of the SNFCC since the idea for the center was first conceived by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and architect Renzo Piano. The project has offered a new paradigm for the sustainable construction, operation, and maintenance of public infrastructure and has sought to raise public consciousness of environmental issues.
