Sunitha Krishnan, Fighter of Sex Trafficking in India, Profiled in Forbes

Sunitha Krishnan, who fights sex trafficking of women and children in India as the head of the non-profit organization Prajwala, has been profiled for her work in Forbes.

In 2016, Krishnan was one of the recipients of the Tällberg Foundation Eliasson Global Leadership Prize, which is supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). SNF also supported the work of Prajwala through a 2018 grant.

Prajwala, based in Hyderabad, has combatted sex trafficking in India for more than 20 years and offers a refuge, capable of housing up to 1,200, where survivors gain training in employable skills that will allow them to support themselves. The Forbes feature focuses on Krishnan’s work at the refuge and her advocacy aimed at getting tech companies to stop the spread of videos of acts of sexual violence. Krishnan, it mentions, has led the rescue of more than 22,000 women and children in 23 years.

Through the annual Eliasson Global Leadership Prize, supported by SNF, Tällberg identifies and lifts up outstanding leaders whose work is rooted in optimism and universal values, criteria certainly met by Krishnan.
