The SNF is Presented with an Award During the Prix Gallien Greece Event for its Contribution to the Public Health Sector
Yesterday, SNF received the Pro Bono Humanum award at the Prix Gallien Awards, for the Foundation’s contribution to the Public Health sector in Greece.
We are proud to accept the award, but also to see the impact of the initiatives we have supported over time, which aim to help improve healthcare conditions for as many people in Greece as possible.
In their remarks, Lenia Vlavianou, Elenia Saloutsi, and Alexia Vasilikou, who received the award on behalf of SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos, highlighted, among other things, the pivotal role of cooperation at all levels, between all of us working together at the SNF, as well as between grantee organizations, the public sector, and SNF.
“The decision for all three of us to accept this award together, was not random—on the contrary, it is indicative of the philosophy that characterizes the entire administration, the staff and, by extension, the work of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, summed up in this quote by Helen Keller: ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’ Collaboration, ‘us’ and ‘together’ are of special value to us. They have been imprinted in our collective DNA, since the inception of the Foundation, 23 years ago. It is together that we share adversity, effort, failures and successes; because success, in our case, is not a personal matter, nor is it easy or self-evident.”
The award comes at a period in which the SNF is focusing on strengthening the Greek public health sector, while also supporting an array of other important grants that are currently being implemented in Greece and abroad. The SNF’s Health Initiative, with a budget close to €300 million, includes the construction of the new General Hospital of Komotini and the Children’s Hospital of Thessaloniki, support to the nursing sector, support to the National Center for Emergency Care (EKAV), the outfitting of Greek public hospitals with specialized equipment, as well as the implementation of educational programs.
