Sports Paths 2022: Helping kids on remote Greek islands grow through play
Aug 11, 2022
From July 4 to 23, 2022, the Sports Paths program paid its annual visits to some of Greece’s most remote islands, travelling to 11 Aegean islands and reaching 450 children ages 6 to 12. As always, the program gave participants the chance to learn to swim safely, join in team sports, master chess, and most importantly play and have fun while developing of motor skills and socializing with other kids.
This year’s participating islands included Agios Efstratios, Amorgos, Astypalaia, Kasos, Kastellorizo, Leipsoi, Nisyros, Tilos, Kimolos, Psarra, and Fournoi.
The kids’ smiles, laughter, and disappointment as the program was reaching its end are testaments to its success.
*Sports Paths was launched in 2015 and is implemented by Sports Excellence and the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress, under the scientific supervision of the First Orthopedic Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), with exclusive support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
