Greece’s contribution to the just-opened 60th Venice Biennale will try to convey the experience of the celebratory word to visitors. We at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) have many reasons to celebrate too.
This year's contribution from Greece is an inter-artistic, interdisciplinary installation entitled "Dryland." The work explores the human experience through visual means within the ecosystem created by the traditional Greek feasts (“panigiria”), which emanates from the center of a provincial settlement to the edges of the surrounding agricultural landscape.
The project is based on a concept by Thanasis Deligiannis and Yannis Michalopoulos and was created in collaboration with Elia Kalogianni (SNF ARTWORKS Moving Image Fellow 2022), Yorgos Kyvernitis (SNF ARTWORKS Moving Image Fellow 2019), Kostas Chaikalis and Fotis Sagonas (SNF ARTWORKS Visual Arts Fellow 2018). It is curated by Panos Giannikopoulos (ARTWORKS’ Program Coordinator).
Through this collaboration, ARTWORKS seeks to encourage artistic creation and offer visibility to the dynamic and talented young people who joined forces to represent Greece this year at a landmark institution for contemporary art.
