The Alexandrian Breath Multinational Multicultural Center has officially opened its doors to serve as a center of creativity, education, culture and recreation for residents of the Athens neighborhood of Kypseli. The Center is the result of the vision of His Beatitude Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, which met with enthusiastic support from all of us at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), as well as from the Athanasios and Marina Martinos Foundation.
The opening of Alexandrian Breath was celebrated in a special event held on November 4 with Hellenic Republic President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, as well as many people from Kypseli and the wider region.
George Agouridis, member of SNF’s Board of Directors and its Senior Legal Advisor, gave remarks during the opening ceremony, saying, “The day we visit a completed project and we all gather together to celebrate the excitement generated by its creation is always a great day. It is a celebration of collectivity, of vision, and of optimism that something new and hopeful is on the way to enrich the daily lives of those who need it most…. His Beatitude’s vision carried us along on this journey, along with the esteemed Mrs. Marina and Mr. Thanasis Martinos, and other supporters, to contribute to the creation of Alexandrian Breath, the Center that we are inaugurating today in the presence of so many people with spirit and anticipation, a hive of countless opportunities and possibilities for education, understanding, and acceptance."
