Attikon Hospital of Athens, a close partner, celebrates 20th anniversary
The event, opened with a speech by University of Athens Rector Gerasimos Sasios, was attended by members of the academic community, hospital administrators and medical staff, and representatives of the Ministries of Health as well as of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports.
The event highlighted the hospital’s contributions to Greece’s National Health System and offered several perspectives on its role in society. Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Board of Directors Member and Senior Legal Advisor George Agouridis said, “Our efforts to strengthen the interconnected sectors of health and education continue with considerable momentum. Partnerships like the one we have shared for so many years with Attikon Hospital are what motivates us to continue in the face of any obstacles. What keeps us going is the conviction that there are capable and dedicated people out there, there are good ideas, there is a willingness to develop and improve, and, most importantly, there is a genuine interest in helping our fellow human beings.”
Our partnership with the Attikon General University Hospital goes back more than a decade and includes SNF grants to the hospital totaling more than €10 million. The Hospital is also one of our closest and most valued partners in our ongoing Global Health Initiative (GHI), through which we are supporting the design, construction, and outfitting of two new buildings at the hospital. At the same time, in line with our commitment to education in the health sector, we supported the creation of a Surgical Simulation Lab at the hospital, the first of its kind in Greece.
