As the coronavirus pandemic makes already complicated issues around the world even more complex, it also makes the act of reporting on those issues more challenging.
Young journalists from DePaul University in Chicago gained experience in covering pressing, multifaceted issues under even under the constraints of a health crisis through the first online iteration of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Journalism Bootcamp.
Students experienced an intensive week of workshops with CSIS policy experts and multimedia producers including sessions on the polarization of information, how to produce multimedia content remotely, U.S.-China competition in the South China Sea, and more. The week culminated in a long-form reporting project that incorporating video, audio, and data visualization elements produced in collaboration with CSIS’s Dracopoulos iDeas Lab, which was created in 2011 with support from SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) supports the CSIS Journalism Bootcamp: Reporting on International Affairs, which has welcomed cohorts from universities around the United States and Greece. SNF also supports the CSIS-TCU Schieffer Series, hosted by former CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer.
