Launching Event of the “Cultural Route of Epirus’ Ancient Theaters” Program, supported by SNF
The event on November 3rd was the culmination of three days full of visits and activities aiming to showcase Epirus’ cultural heritage.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), in collaboration with other public and private entities, contributes to the implementation of the program, which takes a holistic approach to cultural and economic development. In particular, the program aims to strengthen the local economy, and mainly the tourist and agriculture sector, through the protection and promotion of cultural heritage. The program covers four regional units, and includes five archaeological sites (the archaeological sites of Dodone, Nikopolis, Kassopi, Amvrakia and Gitana).
Currently, works and actions are developing on all sites and fronts. With the SNF’s support, restoration works at the Nikopolis Theater are underway and will be completed by 2023, while the restoration studies for the Roman Stadium are in the last stages of approval. The archaeological site of Nikopolis is open to the public for visitation purposes.
