Andreas Dracopoulos talks to the street paper Shedia

Aug 28, 2024

Shedia for an extensive interview addressing, broadly, the social value of charity, solidarity, and sharing what we have. Specifically, Andreas commented on the role of the philanthropic foundations, the third sector, and civil society and the power of each individual to contribute in their own right to creating a kinder and fairer world.

Andreas joined Shedia founder Christos Alefantis and editor Spyros Zonakis to discuss pressing global challenges, the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies, the value of dialogue and collaboration, and the use of public space. The conversation also focused on major SNF projects, such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens and the ongoing Global Health Initiative (GHI), highlighting the vision and values that guide SNF’s philanthropic mission to empower humanity.

SNF supported the establishment of the street paper Shedia in 2012, and our partnership with the team behind the magazine and the nonprofit Diogenis has also included support for a soccer team made up of people experiencing homelessness, as well as for the creation of Shedia Home, an eatery and shop providing employment opportunities.

If you’re in Athens, look out for the vendors with the red vest and lend them a hand by picking up the September issue.

* The interview also offers an opening for our favorite clarification: distinguishing between SNF, the international grantmaking organization, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens—it’s the SNFCC that’s pictured on page 39.
