A decade of educational opportunity for more than 1,000 young Greeks

Jan 07, 2025

Public or private university? It’s a freighted choice that faces some young people in Greece, while for many others private education is simply not on the table due to financial constraints. But for the past decade, the Parallel Studies Program at Deree - The American College of Greece has given Greek public university students who would not otherwise have had the option a chance to enroll for a minor of their choice with support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Scholarship Program.

Over these 10 years, with our support, Deree - The American College of Greece has offered scholarships to more than 1,100 students from Greek universities, including the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Athens University of Economics and Business, and the University of Piraeus, to pursue minors in fields such as finance, marketing, and psychology.

SNF Senior Program Officer Eleni Agouridi said, “10 years marks a symbolic anniversary, an occasion to celebrate support for more than a thousand students in their efforts to broaden their horizons and career prospects. At the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), we are delighted that the program has been warmly embraced by students from a variety of departments at Greek universities, but even more so for the fact that our partnership with Deree has no expiration date. It will continue indefinitely, versatile and available to everyone at all times, as opportunities like this should be.”
